BIO
Ammen Simpson Ogedengbe is a Belgian writer and filmmaker. She graduated from the RITCS School of Arts in Brussels with her 2020 short film Wildflowers, The Children of Never. Growing up in and out of foster care, Ammen turned early to humanitarian work. At fifteen she began spending her holidays working with very young children from difficult, often harsh backgrounds. That commitment deepened over the years, and she went on to become active in the Black Lives Matter movement. Of African descent herself, Ammen makes short films centred on young Black actors as a way to diversify the screen and give presence to a demographic the industry too often overlooks. At twenty-one she wrote Wildflowers, an autobiographical short drawn from her own time in an institutional boarding school, exploring the themes of child neglect and abuse. The film gives a voice to children who are rarely heard and quietly set aside: those left to carry traumatic experiences alone, invisible to the outside world. The children of never, as Ammen refers to them.
